A signature field gives a respondent a signing task alongside the rest of your questions. Choose its signing experience, location and requiredness to match the person completing the form.
Choose the signature experience
The setup screen offers Simple signature and Verified signature. Simple signature is described as Draw signature directly on the form. Verified signature is described as Sign in with Google. Includes name, email. Select the option appropriate to your respondents and check its actual preview before publishing.
A role such as Employee, Parent or Customer tells people whose signature belongs in the field. It does not identify an email recipient by itself. For a workflow, recipient addresses are assigned separately.
Place and require the field
- Open signature setup for the intended form.
- In Choose signature type, choose the available signing experience and select Next.
- At Place signature after, choose the question that should precede the signing task.
- Review Make as required field. The first added signature defaults to required; check additional fields individually.
- Select Add signature, then open the respondent preview.
Put agreement wording before the signature rather than after the submit action. Use a descriptive field label when more than one person signs. For example, Employee signature and Witness signature are clearer than two fields both named Signature.
Review before collecting responses
Check that the displayed signature belongs to the intended person and that the respondent can reach the task after any conditional questions. Test an omitted required signature so the form's validation is clear. For Google-verified signing, check the sign-in requirement with the audience who will use it.
Do not assume that every signature field exposes every possible signature mode. The setup and signer preview determine the available experience. If someone cannot sign, ask which link and device they used and whether the form requires Google sign-in.
Changing a signature
Review changes carefully once collection has started. Moving a field, changing a role, or deleting a signature changes future completion requirements. Existing signed records should be treated as the record of the request that was actually completed; do not expect a later field change to rewrite those records.
For another person signing during the same submission, see additional signatures. For separate invitations and ordered signing, use Signature workflow.
