Quick Answer
How do I set up a signature field?
In the EDIT tab, click a signature field to select it. Set Verify identity to Google Sign-in or Not required, and use the Required switch. The gear opens more settings, including Mark this as Protected Health Information. Each signer gets their own signature field, which Formesign adds when you add the signer.
Each signer has their own signature field. Formesign creates it when you add the signer, along with fields for their name, email, and the date signed.
Set up a signature field
Open the EDIT tab and click the signature field.
Google Sign-in or Not required?
Verify identity is the main decision for each signature.
| Google Sign-in | Not required | |
|---|---|---|
| What the signer does | Signs in with Google, then signs | Draws a signature straight away |
| What you gain | The signature is tied to a Google account | The fastest path, with nothing to sign in to |
| Best for | Agreements where identity matters | Low-risk acknowledgements, and people without Google accounts |
| Security level on the certificate | Reflects the sign-in | Anonymous for someone who opens a shared link |
With Google Sign-in on, the signer sees this when they click the signature box:
Test with the people who will sign
Google Sign-in opens in a pop-up, and some email apps' built-in browsers block it. If a signer gets stuck, ask them to open the link in their normal browser.
Other settings
The gear opens the field's settings panel.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title | The label above the signature. Make it specific: Parent signature, not Signature |
| Mark this as required field | Same as the Required switch |
| Mark this as Protected Health Information | Treats the field as PHI. See HIPAA forms |
| Description | Help text, such as what the signer is agreeing to |
| Title image | An image above the field |
Click Save when you're done.
See a signer's whole block
Each signer's fields sit in a colored block. Click Expand workflow on a block to see all of them: the signer's section title, their name and email, the signature, and the date signed. Click Minimize workflow to fold it again.
You can add other questions for that signer inside their block, such as a Comments field for a manager. Only that signer fills them in.
Put the agreement first
People should read what they're agreeing to before they reach the signature. Put the wording in a section above the signature block, or use a consent screen.
Change a signature on a live form
Changes apply to future responses. Documents already signed stay exactly as they were signed, so test any change with a practice response first.
